IAN PETRIE BAND

The Band is available for Ceildihs as a trio or as song duo act for Folk clubs and Festivals.

IAN PETRIE. has been part of the KENT folk circuit for 40 years – the big man with the big voice – Ian is an accomplished singer, guitar player, songwriter and barn dance caller with expereince going back to the 1970’s. As well as playing as a solo act and with his own line up Ian has been a long time collaborator with many local artists – including the legendary Kent folk band Skinners Rats ). He has played at just about every folk club and village hall in Kent, many across London and on the continent (including the Le Mans 24hour race) .

TED HANDLEY – Ted is a very fine accordian player and singer and has been part of Ian’s dance band line up for over 10 years. Ted comes from a very musical family – both his brother are acomplished musicians and have been a fixture of the kent folk circuit (and Broadstairs folk week) for nearly 30 years. Ted plays a modern electric accordian which allows him to switch to other instruments as required – this brings a whole new diemnsion to the live perforamnces and frequently brings questions from audience members –  where are those other instruments??

KRISTA BUBBLE – Krista is a fine fiddle player with folk music in her blood, she has played with a number of well known Kent acts over the years, working for ceilidhs with Davey Slater, Doug Hudson and many others. Krista is the newest member of the trio (albeit for a significant number of years!)

The important thing for us is to see people having fun at Ceilidhs, barn dances or whatever you want to call your function. We have played for private parties, weddings, fund raising functions, anniversaries or many other celebrations.

Ian and his various line ups offer a fully professional service, they have a full PA  (when required) – or will even play purely acoustically. We have Public Liability cover, which, thankfully, we have never had to call upon.

What is a ceilidh? The term is often interchanged with Barn Dance. A Barn Dance is what it says on the tin (although not always in a barn) and for us comprises of a mixture of English and some Scottish and Irish social or country dances. A Ceilidh consists of dancing, singing, tune playing, tale telling and whatever you wish to throw into the mix.

If necessary, we can provide feedback from previous bookers of the band. Nearly all our bookings come via word of mouth, either repeats or from people who have been at one of the functions we’ve played at and enjoyed the evening.
